Compaq c300 wont boot past Compaq Screen.?

Hi,

I own a Compaq c300. I was trying to reinstall the Windows XP OS..

I got a blue screen of death.. so I powered down..

then when I went to power on.. it would not boot past the first black Compaq screen where it says "Press esc" "press f10" etc.

If I press esc it does nothing.. (for boot order) it just shows the CPU speed..and RAM modules..(which makes me believe maybe the HD is at fault. cause it doesnt show anything about the HD)

If I press f10 it does nothing..when it should enter BIOS

so no bios

the HD also makes 4 click noises on startup..

So I assume my HD is just dead..

Before I go and buy a new one I want to make sure that this is indeed the problem.

thanks!

Your hard drive may be at fault, but here are some steps to eliminate

First step - boot into Safe mode if you can (press F8 during bootup)

Choose the Last Known Good configuration

Or choose a System Restore point from a date you know the machine worked http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084/

    If that doesn't work,

    Repair the Registry

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

If that doesn't work, start the machine from the Windows XP disk and do a Windows Repair installation.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info/

nicely the MBR is relatively effective if it would desire to in spite of if boot abode windows 7 in any respect. as far as my information is going, i might might desire to easily wipe it utilising the healing partition on the laptop or utilising an o.e.m abode windows 7 disc and employing the important difficulty on the backside of the laptop. which you will make an o.e.m disc out of an present day abode windows 7disc
