It all depends on how much you practice and, to some extent, your natural potential on the instrument. Some people are naturals and take to it quickly. For others, it takes years to get even competent. It took me about 3 years to become a very good player, practicing about 1-2 hours a day, every day -- and about 10 to develop my own style and to stand out from others. I've been playing for about 25+ years now, mostly professionally.
What kind of guitar depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. I play a variety because I like a variety of sounds, though I tend to gravitate towards telecasters.
I have no idea what your last question means, though.

To be good at guitar is a life long endeavor. A lot of people will tell you you're good and you may think your good, but one day you will hear someone playing that will blow you away and inspire you to try harder.
A good starter guitar in my opinion is a Fender stratocaster, Fender Squire, or something by Ibenez. Also if you want a starter amp try a crate or gorilla amp. They come with distortion already built in. I would also suggest a pocket rocket. You plug your guitar into this device and you can plug your mp3 or ipod into it and jam along. It comes with headphones so you don't bother others and it runs off of a battery.
As for the girl question I would say in my experience it happens alot. I have had been with 36 ladies in my lifetime. Loved every one of them. Your choice in playing music will make this happen for you. Some guys have money and others have muscles and some have good looks, but trust me on this, women love music. They love to dance. You get her to dance, you are in my friend. Take that to the bank.

Learning guitar was pretty easy for me but just hte basics though. Some people are different you may want to start off on an acoustic guitar. The strings are harder to push down on acoustics and that can strenthgen your fingers and muscle memory for chords. Just a cheapo for like 50 dollars. But if you just want to go straight to electric go ahead. i think i started play in january of this year so ive on got what 10 months of experience but im not stupid about it. I have the hang of it and it took bout 6 months to get to the part where i could play something somewhat hard. but yea startup its great.
