How can I write for web sites and get paid for it?

I'm looking to do some writing and make a bit of money. Are there any web sites I can submit things for that will pay? I want to build up my writing portfolio.

StoryMash.com is a great site for fiction writers. It's collaborative storytelling and they pay over half of all revenue, usually a few bucks a month, depending on how many read your work.

What makes it so fun is that writers can continue stories written by others.

They also have writing contests that pay a few hundred every few weeks. Winning one of those will help with your portfolio!

Check out http://www.writersdigest.com/ and http://www.wow-womenonwriting.com./ They usually provide links to websites that are looking for writers.
