how to repair windows corrupt file??!?

You can try another option which might work, if it doesn't... it may be a hardware issue.

- does not require System Restore CD or XP Operating System CD that came with your computer, if you don't care about reinstalling Windows XP

- Requires a CD-R (Blank disk) OR you can order a CD for a couple of dollars online from their websites. (if you purchase the CD online, skip to step 4 when you get the CD)

- gets rid of all your programs but allows you to keep all personal documents, pictures, music

1) Go to a working computer with internet access and at least a CD burner (another you own, friends, work, etc..) .

2) Depending on your Computer Specs, download the following .iso file

384mb+ Ubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 8.04, PCLinoxOS, Freespire (not sure: choose Ubuntu 8.04 at (www.ubuntu.com then click get ubuntu and go download the .iso file)

256-384mb Xubuntu 8.04

64-256mb PCLinixOS TinyMe

Under 64mb Deli Linux

3) Burn the .iso file to a CD using a CD burner program that can burn ISO files. (Not sure: Google/Yahoo Online with your program and .iso)

- If still not sure program will burn .iso files, for windows machines download isorecorder (Please pick the right version for the version of windows you have), download and install. Then right click on the .iso file and there will be an option to Burn to CD.

Please Note: After the CD is burned, if you look at the contents on the CD and see other stuff besides the .iso file, then it worked, if you just see the .iso file then it was not burnt correctly,

4) Once you get a correctly burned CD, go back to your computer and stick the CD in your drive.

5) Reboot computer, when screen goes black (if your computer is within the past 5 years hit F12 key for a bunch of times, a menu will come up) OR go into Bios and make sure that your computer is set to boot of the CD/DVD drive first.

6) Linux (Ubuntu, etc..) CD will boot up as a "Live CD" with options, Deli Linux will have to be installed.

7a) First time, for all but Deli Linux, choose Try without installing, after booted, you should be able to use the computer for internet, word processing, etc,,m viewing and pictures, documents, images on your hard drive.

7b) Next Time, reboot (follow step 4-5) and then choose the install option

7b1) Follow the steps, to install. There will be an option asking how much space to allocate for windows or ubuntu, if not sure, allocate if you can equal amount of space, if windows needs more than 50%, give it at least 5-10gb more than it's minimum needed (the slider will not let you slide to less than what windows needs)

7b2) Computer will need to reboot, a menu will appear when computer is restarted, you no longer need to boot from the CD. If you do not do anything Ubuntu will boot in 10 seconds, if you hit cursor keys up and down, a different option will be selected and the 10 second countdown will stop, you will then need to hit enter for the computer to boot)

7b3) Now start moving your personal stuff to /home/(your userid) directory

Aprox time for me:

-download 700mb .iso file (10-15 minutes)

- Burn .iso to a CD (5-10 minutes)

- Boot the computer from the CD (time to boot), I can view all of the information including open word, excel, etc.. files with openoffice.

- Install on the hard drive (10-25 Minutes)

- Learn the differences and looks of different Desktops/Windowing Systems for Linux KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc...

Ubuntu uses Gnome, Kubuntu is a KDE version of Ubuntu, Xubuntu is an XFCE version of Ubuntu,

PCLinxOS, Freespire use KDE..

PCLinuxOS Tinyme is a cut down version for older computers of PCLinuxOS.

- Don't base your choice simply on the look of the Linux Distribution since it is easy to change it to make it look like the other or OS X, or Windows, or anything you like

- Follow steps for Option B above to restore the files to Windows...

- in linux copy all your documents and personal files to your users home directory (/home/[username])

- install gparted or qparted from add/remove or Synaptic package manager (simply click on checkbox and then apply)

- shrink windows partition down to make room for a fat partition large enough to hold your windows files

- create the fat partition

- copy your personal windows files, etc.. to the fat partition just created, reinstall windows..

(your D: drive will be the copied software)...

- And then either reinstall ubuntu without formating the ubuntu partition OR restore the Grub Menu (the menu when you first turn on the computer to choose Ubuntu or Windows) so you have both linux (or ubuntu) and Windows,

Like someone already said, just use the Windows Disk to repair your files.

In the unlikely event that you cannot fix it, your files are not lost so don't worry, just make sure you don't "Format" your hard drive. If you cannot boot into windows you can download a "linux boot disk" from the internet. I recommend Knoppix, and after burning the files onto a CD you stick it into your computer allowing you to boot into the linux operating system, which will let you backup and save your files onto another disk or hard drive so that you can then completely erase and reinstall your windows operating system.

Two options I would try. 1st - If you have the original windows disc try to boot from that disc and select REPAIR windows. 2nd -If you can not do the above I would remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC as a slave device and copy over all your files, normaly in 'My Documents' folder. Then replace the HDD an reinstall a fresh copy of windows. Good luck.

You could try hitting F8 before Windows attempts to load and try the "Last Known Good Configuration" option, but I'm not sure if that'll work in this scenario. The link above will work should do the job, however.

if you are using windows xp

this may solve your problem:

when windows starts ,then put your windows installation cd in your cd/dvd rom and then click on start>run> sfc /scannow and wait untill windows repair it self.

remember that there should be a space between "sfc" and "/" otherwise the command will not work

note:it is wise if you Create your"recovery consul" floppy disk about which you may get more details in "windows help and support".

boot with the windows xp disc and choose the repair option. it will repair the installation without over writing your files.
