Is there a law in Michigan that protects the rights of adoptive parents as it does natural parents?

I was told that employers must treat the leaves the same in Michigan but I cannot find evidence of this. My employer will grant leave for pregnant women, but not for our adoption of a newborn.

The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 entitles you upto 12 weeks of UNPAID leave for the for placement of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care. This is a Federal law that overrides any Michigan laws.

Actually, that is a federal law. Maternity/family leave is issued in cases of the birth of a child, adoption of a child or care for an elderly family member.
