Suggestions for travel to NYC...?

Hi, I will be traveling to NYC in a few weeks - it's my first trip! What kind of clothing should I take? What is the typical weather for NYC late October? Is it realistic to have a budget of $25-$30 a day for food? Thanks!

It all depends on your taste. If you want to eat at restaurants where you need to study a language to read the menu or pronuce the restaurant name, then you may need 3 times that.

If you have a hotel (like the Marriott) with complimentary expanded continental breakfast, that can eliminate your breakfast budget. The food should keep you through brunch and maybe lunch.

If you are having fun, you may not even notice that you are hungry. If you have to take medication or will find yourself walking a lot the city, stop and grab a bite to eat.

If your room will have a microwave you can buy something in a store (like what you may do at home) to make save even more.

Honestly, I think you may end up spending a little more than that. Try to stick to take out if you are interested in staying under $30 pp, the usual pizza and things like that. I dont believe you would be able to do a lot of sit down resturants for that price per day. I like "steve's" suggestions of eating in the room and the free breakfast.

Keep in mind, in NYC there are always additional charges (which I didnt factor in my first few trips ($7.50 for a metro pass per day, cab rides (can vary depending on how far your traveling, my average ride is about $12 to $20 per ride), parking, tolls if you are driving, and of course any shopping or sites).

Weather varies so i would check the weather the day before you leave. I believe that long sleeves and pants will be fine but in case there is a cold front you may want a jacket. I was there last week and it was HOT. So hard to say on the packing!
