Well, yes. Its illegal and would be considered sexual misconduct if you even send her a sexual text message!! And forget about it if you kiss her. Now, the only way you can get in trouble is if her parents decide to press charges on you. Honestly, this is such a tricky age, and I dont mean this in no offense, as I am speaking as someone who has worked with teens, and have been in a similiar situation as you. What happens is that although at 18, you are considered an adult, mentally, you and your girlfriend are at the same mental level, so either your mind is that of a 15/16 yr or your girlfriend has a mind of an 18 yr old. Dont be discouraged though, I been with my guy for 9 yrs today ( it's our anniversary) and I first kissed him when I was 15! He is 4 years older so do the math!

Just be very careful. Make sure you both are mature enough to handle this...make sure u trust this girl not to get you into any problems, and stay away from writing her sexy letters, in case one day one of her parents find it and want to use it against you. Then again, you might develop a great relationship with her family, as it was the case in my relationship.

EDIT: I just wanted to reassure you that you guys can maintain a loving relationship despite the age difference. I know alot of people say wait to have sex until she is 18, but seriously, this is SO unrealistic. I just want you to be informed, and know that you have to speak to her on a very serious level. The day the both of you feel you are ready to have sex, make sure she is on some type of birth control, and over all, just inform yourself about sex in general...and no you will not learn anything valuable from porn.

Some states may not prosecute if it's a 17 year old with an 18 year old; generally a 16 year old, with an 18 year old or older, yeah... seriously frowned upon. BUT you can have a non-sexual relationship and be just fine until she turns 18. After all if you love her, you should respect her anyway.
