Is it best to reserve a bus tour ahead of time or can I do it when I get to NYC? Also, where is a good place to get discounted tickets to shows? I will be staying at a hotel on 51st, between 2nd and 3rd aves. Thanks!

Bus tours are everywhere - if you want a specific one book ahead
Theatre tickets can be bought at the last minute at discount prices in town - But if you want to sit next to each other or see a specific play book ahead

My friend, you can reserve a bus tour either way, it doesn't matter. However, you might get a better deal booking in advance. The link below offers some great deals on guided tour of the city.

In regard to discounts to Broadway show, if you go to the TKTS Discount Ticket Booth at 46th Street between 8th Avenue and Broadway, you can get discounted tickets to any Broadway Shows.
