I am a salaried employee. My employer is going to cut my pay. What laws protect me?

I have been working with this company for a little more than a year and he stated that he is going to cut my pay. What can I do?

    Unless you have a contract stating what you get paid, your only option is to look for another job.

    Not too many laws protects anyone salary when the country is in the shape that it's in.

    The only wage that is protected is minimum wage.

    The law should allow you to search for another job.

    I believe a lot of business owners are crunching now.

    Even though they are making the money.

    They are cutting wages and salaries to hoard money in case things get worse.

    Example

    Just like the oil people are doing now.

    They no their time is nearing an end.

    So gas prices won't $2 a gallon for a long long long time.

    Bosses are doing the same and some have been for a long long time.

    That's why salaries and wages are forbidden among workers.

    It depends.

    Do you have an employment contract (including a contract between your union and the employer)? If so, the parties are obligated to meet the requirements of the contract. A lawsuit for enforcement of the conditions of the contract would be warranted.

    If you lack the protection of a contract, your state may have laws to protect persons in your circumstance. Check the law library for your state online or at the nearest courthouse with a law library or at the nearest law school in your state.

    Many states do not have protections for pay or employment. You may have no protections.

    I am assuming when you say you are a salaried employee, that you are also an exempt employee. As an exempt employee, you should receive a full days wage even if you only work a partial day. On the same note, exempt employees are "exempt" from receiving over time (as others have suggested you should have received). Also, your boss can not force anyone to attend the baseball game. It should be an option, but not mandatory. He should leave the office open for those that choose not to participate in the off site outing.

    Equal pay for equal work is a slogan that promotes women getting the same pay as men who do the same job, however in this case I would be tempted to take an attitude of "equal work for equal pay". I know this doesn't help but it gives you an idea of how you can respond to your employers cut.

    unless you have a union job with prevailing wage there is nothing you can do. it is up to the employer to set the wage and they will probably give you 2 options take the new wage or quit your job. if your in doubt contact fair wage and labor for you state

    You can quit. Nothing says he has to pay you the same wage, as long as it's above minimum wage. I'd stick it out and stop worrying in this economy - maybe they're just hanging in by a thread.

    Unless you are making minimum wage, under union protection or have a contract; you got nothing
