Why don't people answer but instead point to another site?

Some people believe that long answers won't be read. Instead of taking the time out to write down a detailed explanation, they'll just direct you to a website that might be useful.

My guess is that the majority of them are just collecting points and perhaps the others do not feel that they can answer your question in a manner that you can easily understand.

Sometimes re directing one to another site is the answer

If it is a complicated subject this is better much of the time.
