Is it normal for my baby to cry when having a bowl movement?

My baby is a year old and not on formula any more. His poop isn't mushy any more. He's been constipated a few times but now every time he has a bm he cries.Do you think something may be wrong?

If he has been constipated before he could be scared to poop. This is common with toddlers. If he is passing the bm fine and is still crying, it's probably fear. If he is having a hard time passing the Bm, there may be something wrong. Try distracting him when he is pooping ( read a story sing a song, make faces). My Oldest used to have huge Bms. We would lay him on his back and push his knees to his chest. this helped him pass tthem more easily. If it isn't his fear, let your dr know. You don't want him to start holding everything in. That's when it gets complicted.

Could he be constipated still? Doesnt sound right, he should be crying every time he has a bowel movement, maybe take him to his doctor to see whats happening, because he shouldnt be in pain, i hope everything gets better soon :)

give your baby 30mls of boiled water, left to cool sounds a little dehydrated, my baby 4mts old had the same problem the water just loosens his bowls helps for sure.

  • Yogurt (they make it drinkable now), prune juice, fresh fruit and the old standby... apple juice. If you make sure he has one of these at least once a day, his stool will be much softer and won't pain him. It really works.
