don't go straight from meat eater to vegan.it'll be very hard for you.you can become a vegetarian first and if you are ready to become a vegan then only do it.you need steps by steps to change from a non vege to vegan.

The first thing to do is talk to them about how you feel and see what they say.

If they are worried about your health: Show them research that promotes a vegan diet. Learn a lot about it and inform them so they won't think you'll be unhealthy. Another good thing to do would be to make up a sample week's menu, so they can see you are able to plan well balanced meals for yourself.

If they have problems with extra costs or time: You might offer to pay for any extra expenses your new diet would cause, or cook most of your own food, something like that. Then see if they'll at least let you try it for a 2-week period to see how everything goes. If it goes well, they'll probably be more inclined to allow you to permanently change your diet.

    Good luck!

congratulations beautiful your doing a good thing for yourself, animals and the planet. I suggest don't go vegan overnight go slowly first cut out all meat then slowly onto dairy and eggs.

as for the parentals do some research on the net or at the library about the good points of being a veg (and there are heaps) and maybe they'll come round, you shouldn't force them to become vegan though you can only live your life and make your choices not others just help them accept your choices. which they should.

Try going in gently. It took me many years to move from being a vegetarian to a vegan.

At first try meat replacement or substitutes, I dont know where you are in the world - but in the UK we have companies like RealEat, Frys and Linda McCartney who do very good vegan meat substitutes.

Increase the amount of vegetables you eat, use this as your chance to experiment with things you have never tried etc. 10 years ago I would have never dreamt of eating things like beansprouts, carrots, peppers etc - now they form part of my daily food intake.

If you are going vegan, dont punish yourself too much when you slip up and accidentally eat a dairy by-product etc, it happens to us all - especially when eating out or trying new foods. Pick yourself up, learn from the experience and carry on.

Too many of my friends have become vegetarian or vegan - out of no fault of their own eaten a curious by-product accidentally - and when they found, have just given up on it all.

If you do decide to go vegan, good luck. If you need any help or want to talk to other people in the same situation, check out the forums on www.veggieboards.com/forum

Hi there. I went from meat eater to vegan and it was fine for me. If you look at recipes online or get a good simple cookbook, it can really help you out. If you have an area of the house that you keep your food, try to get rid of some of the things with animal ingredients. When you go shopping buy fruits, veggies, rice or other grain, tofu, vegan veggie burgers, whole grain bread, beans, lentils, soymilk, cereal, and anything else you can think of.

Animal ingredient list...something that really helped me out: http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-ingredients....

    Congratulations thats awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was exactly like you I went from a meat eater to vegan .

I suggest you do the following:

_If you havent already, start shooping at your local health food store / Whole Foods

-Get in contact with the local chapter Vegetarians & Vegan Chapter

-Get Books from either your local Library or even a Bookstore (ex:Veganomicon)

-Go to http://vegan.alltop.com/ as well as http://veggielinks.com/linkexchange.html

I love these sites they are link related and have tons of info at one place from all over the web where you can easily find everything you are looking for .

Its not as hard as some people would like to make it out to be.

    Good Luck !!!!!!!!!

You can't convince someone when its something ridiculous. You can tell them but you can't change their mind on something that makes no sense and isn't going to do anything to change the world by one more person going vegan.

Tell them that it's what you want. It's healthy and they should want you to be healthy. Maybe you can go to the store with your mother next time to help pick out groceries, and start out with this new change slowly.
