Soluble=(aq), insoluble=(s)?

in

Cu(NO3)2 + H2SO4 = CuSO4(?) + 2HNO3

IF ?=aq then there is no reaction

but if ?=s then there is a reaction???

Rule:

All sulfates are soluble except BaSO4 andPbSO4.

    CuSO4 is soluble... forms a clear, bright blue solution.

    So it is aqueous (aq)

    because all the compounds are soluble on both sides of the reaction then there is no reaction.

    if ? is (aq) then NO REACTION because the solution would look the same before and after the reaction and the ions wouls still be floating about.

    if ? is (s) then there is a REACTION because two ions have formed a new compound.

    (aq) means that it is dissolved in water and (s) means it is insoluble so it get precipitated out as solid.

    On convering ti ions in solution the equation becomes.

    Cu2+ + SO42- ------> CuSO4 (s)

    Yes there is a reaction.

    Cu2+ 2NO3- + 2H+ + SO42- -----> Cu 2+ + SO42- + 2H+ + 2NO3-

    Cancel common ions of both sides. All ions cancell out. So there is no reaction
