A quick review of the Ibanez website indicates that the AF series are all maple guitars - that's top, back and sides all of maple. Maple gives a bright (almost harsh) sound that is good for some acoustic guitars, but for mellow jazz and clean blues sounds you should consider something with either a mahogany body, or a spruce top (if the body is maple). The tonewoods are what ultimately shape the tone of the instrument. Rosewood or mahagony bodied guitars will be more expensive though. The other consideration of course is the amplifier and/or effects that you use to shape the sound.

I had an AF75D that I used for jazz and blues. I liked it a lot, and have no real complaints about it. It's what you would expect from a $300-400 guitar, a little more than I expected actually.
It was set up terribly when I got it, but I moved the bridge and adjusted the action and it was great from then on.
For a lot of jazz, I'd roll back the tone on the neck pickup and get some pretty deep, but not muddy sounds.
You can also kick over to the bridge and get some sharp, biting twang with some serious body to it. It's hard to explain.
Then there's everything inbetween.
I'd recommend simply going to a store and trying one though. See if it meets your needs.
Otherwise I'd say an AF full-hollow model (I can only personally speak for the AF75D, but most of them have the same setup) is probably an *excellent* choice if you want to play both blues and jazz (or even country or rockabilly), and are on a $400 budget.

I have an AS model and use it for Jazz stuff, I REALLY like it alot, it has a bigger scale and makes it easier to hit the inversion chords in Jazz comping.
Not really sure about the AF, I've only played them a little, seemed a little more thin to me than nthe AS series. But, you gotta go with what you can afford. The Artcore series has a bunch of nice guitars in it.

An original Ibanez ' Artist ' 2630 is an excellent guitar. Would be hard come by nowadays as a lot of mass produced guitars are pressed out and compiled of various different components by manufacturing companies who simply own the name. If you could find an older Framus semi or a Harmony they are brilliant tools for that style. Or perhaps just an Epiphone ES/335. Good luck.

Jazz is a style - you can play it on any guitar.
There are some Ibanez semi-hollow body guitars that are inexpensive that might work for you. The George Benson model is great, but its not cheap either.

You can play any style on any guitar. Different guitars have different looks that reflect a genre, ie..B.C. Rich is metal..the Fender Telecaster is country..etc. But the sound comes from the player. Having said that..Ibanez make fine guitars. You can do well with these.

the semi-hollow Artcore series. That's what they're made for. And at around $400.00, you can't beat the price for the quality.

there not the best, they are more metal, but if you want jazz i'd suggests strat, tela, les paul, and maybe a half hallow body.
i have and ibenez bass... its awesome, lol
