Not really. It is billed more or less as a travel guitar because of its shorter scale. I'm sure it's just as good as any in its price range for a beginner. Sorry, haven't played one. BTW, I highly suggest you visit your local shop and try one out before purchasing.

    Here's a good description:

"The Ibanez Mikro [GRGM21] is no toy -- made to the same high standards of the other GIO series guitars. The RGRM21 has the same high-output Powersound pickups, the same construction, materials, set-up and inspection. It's just shorter, a 22.2 in. scale neck instead of 25.5 in., and smaller. That makes it perfect for tour buses, songwriting, running scales while downloading and, of course, for young rockers and beginners.

    Technical Info

Rosewood Fingerboard: Rosewood offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain.

Bridge: Fixed - This design offers thru-body stringing for stronger tone and sustain.

i really do not suggest the smaller one. It will get you used to the smaller size so when you upgrade again it will feel really strange. And on stage it could look foolish. So id defiantly say the Ibanez GRX20 as it has humbuckers too. But the other answer is right too, the s series is very good.
