3. Journey
4. The Eagles
5. Metallica
6. Heart
7. Michael Jackson (Yes he was EXTREMELY popular =D)
8. Guns N' Roses
9. Aerosmith
10. Don Henley (Solo)
11. Brian Adams
12. Mr. Mister

You know, when I take trivia quizzes about 80s music, my score is so bad that I wonder if I slept through the entire decade.
But here's a link of top hits according to Billboard for the entire decade. And I know I've heard almost all these songs. Looks like Phil Collins and Michael Jackson were the biggest players for the decade as a whole.
Great question!

Van Halen, Billy Idol, Cindi Lauper, U2, Pink Floyd, INXS, The Police, David Bowie, lots and lots of stuff.
The mainstream was O.K., but the stuff happening under that was much better:
The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division/New Order, ...
This is speaking from the viewpoint of an English-speaking Westerner.
