However, these were my favorite bands: 1. AC/DC 2. Van Halen 3. Journey 4. The Eagles 5. Metallica 6. Heart 7. Michael Jackson (Yes he was EXTREMELY popular =D) 8. Guns N' Roses 9. Aerosmith 10. But here's a link of top hits according to Billboard for the entire decade. And I know I've heard almost all these songs. Looks like Phil Collins and Michael Jackson were the biggest players for the decade as a whole. Great question!

- Anonymous1 decade agoVan Halen, Billy Idol, Cindi Lauper, U2, Pink Floyd, INXS, The Police, David Bowie, lots and lots of stuff. The mainstream was O.K., but the stuff happening under that was much better: The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division/New Order, ... This is speaking from the viewpoint of an English-speaking Westerner.
