No not illegal if the owner is a registered firearms holder of that particular gun. The person having a firearm in their possession, must have a foid card registered for the type of handgun they have purchased legally. They must go to a school to be trained to handle a certain handgun. The city of Chicago has an ordinance for that person to have that firearm registered within the city if they live there. If a person has a gun that is not registered in their possession..that is illegal.

I think it's just handguns.
Shotguns and pistols may be brought into the city with the appropriate permit.
