why do so many people have tumble dryers when most clothes shouldn't be tumble dried?

According to the labels, virtually nothing can be tumble dried with the exception of bedding and towels! So how come tumble dryers are so popular?

Update:

I haven't been mislead - the labels say 'do not tumble dry'! I do anyway and they're fine, but if I was new to the washing game I'd be inclined to follow what the label recommends!

I agree absolutely and I don't know why I have a tumble dryer. I'm always getting it in the neck for drying clothes in the house when the weather is bad, but only towels and sheets and old teeshirts that I don't care about are allowed in the dryer! My daughter tells me to ignore the labels but I just can't bring myself to do it.

What kind of clothes (material) are you buying? I think somebody has mislead you. Almost every type of clothing I have can be tumble dried, and it says so right on the label. Even the majority of the gentle-cycle stuff I own says "tumble dry low".

Tumble dryers are also a lot more convenient than line-drying. That's the main reason why most people have them.

A lot of manufacturers put in the 'do not tumble dry" label in because people tend to let clothes bake for too long on too high a heat, then they take the shrunken things back to the store.

ALWAYS use LOW setting for only five minutes then hang up to dry. No creases!

I always do this for everything, even towels and my electricity bill is tiny now!

I am not sure about the clothing you are wearing, but alot of the clothing I buy for myself and my family can be tumble dried.

its easy, I tumbel dry most things as its quick, unless they are going to shrink I will use the airing cupboard, but makes this alot softer, and looks better than clothes on radiators and clothes dryers.
