Best Secondary in NFL?

I have to say the Steelers have the best secondary. Polamalu - McFadden - Clark and Taylor. This group of guys are all hard hitters and very physical. Polamalu one of teh best SS in the league and Taylor the most underrated CB in football. McFadden in his rookie year held Reggie Wayne to 3 catches for 27 yards in the 2005 Divisional round of the playoffs. This is my pick whats yours?

Hmm... Steelers secondary best in the league? I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree on this one. I'm gonna go with the Philadelphia Eagles on this one (Sheppard, Dawking, Samuel, Mikell, Brown) I think the Cowboys probably have 2 of the best Corners in the league and Roy Williams is a heck of a SS, but they lack a good ballhawking FS. The Patriots have a very good Secondary, but their Front 7 is letting them down. Plus they're more system then they are talent. I'm probably as big a Steelers fan as you'll meet, but here's my problem with their secondary:

Ike Taylor is too hot-and-cold. He's unreliable, period. Sure he's held some of the biggest names in the business to basically nothing (TO, Chad Johnson, Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison...) but then he turns around and gives up big games to guys that are half as good. The other problem I have with him is his complete and total lack of hands. The man couldn't intercept a velcro ball. If he becomes consistent, then and only then is he a ProBowl caliber CB.

Troy Polamalu is a great Safety and one of my favorite players. However, he has single handedly brought down tackling ability throughout the entire league. He's the worst tackler I've ever seen in my life. He hits hard and he'll bring you down, but if he'd just work on proper tackling technique his tackling stats would be a good 25%-30% higher. His ball skills leave some to be desired too.

Bryant McFadden has been HUGE this year. He's an upgrade from Townsend and he's put Townsend into the role he's best suited to play: Nickleback and FS.

FS is where the Steelers are hurting most. Ryan Clark is decent, but they need a technically sound stud there who is blinding fast to really allow Troy to be Troy.

The Steelers secondary will thrive or die with their ability to rush the passer. They've only been good this year because the Steelers have had the ability to get to the QB regularly so far. I would say that their secondary is above average talent wise, but they will be exposed if the pass rush declines.

I would have to say that its the Eagles, with 4 Pro Bowlers and a young stud in Quintin Mikell as well. The competition is so tough in the Eagles camp that they're sitting an All-Pro, Lito Sheppard, because they have two better guys out there.

There's no other secondary out there that can say they are benching an All-Pro who's in his prime and starting someone better.

My other vote would be for the Chargers, with two great, physical corners, and a great young safety in Eric Weddle.

that huge Eagles photograph as your icon, in basic terms confirms how bias you're. like this is been pronounced, Brian Dawkins is ageing and he in basic terms performed 10 video games final year. In those activity he had a million INT and 37 tackles. That rather isnt somebody i could be in line with. Sheldon Brown is fairly basic himself. In his final 32 video games he has 4 interceptions and in basic terms 25 passes defended. Thats below a million in line with activity. As for who's the applicable, statistically its the Indianapolis Colts. final season they gave up a stingy basic of 172 ypg with 22 INT and in basic terms sixteen TDs allowed. Oakland with out thier key additions allowed 195 ypg 18 INT and 17 TDs allowed. With Michael Huff including yet another year of expirience and DeAngelo corridor coming to the secondary I anticipate those numbers to strengthen much greater. Its all concern to alter with one injury yet i think of Oakland is a reasonably solid %. by way of fact the applicable.

  • I agree 100% with the Steelers.

Talent-wise, the Cowboys are up there, as well as the Colts.

I hate to bring this up, but the Redskins could've had an even better seconday with #21, Landry, Springs, Smoot, and Rodgers.

The best secondary in the league belongs to Oakland. They have two corners who are the best in the league and because of their pitiful Defensive pressure upfront, they are constantly one on one against wide outs. I don't see Pittsburgh as being the best, not when Joe Flacco picks them apart!
