Does the Army have a weight waiver?

My husband is going back into the Army, but is about 15lbs over the weight the Army requires. He can pass the PT test at a high level and we're on the road to him losing those pounds, but im wondering if the recruiter can get him a waiver so we can get him sworn in at MEPS. He should be at weight by the time we'd get to our duty station and no doubt hell lose it after he starts doing PT again every day. Any help is great!

If he is prior service he has to be able to meet the active duty weight standards. So if he doesn't meet the ht/wt requirement, he must be able to pass tape.

Your husband should know the answer to this question.

There is no weight "waiver" but there is a tape test that they do in case that you're over weight. So long as he can pass the tape test then he'll be accepted in regardless of the weight.

However, this is not up to his recruiter, the tape test is something that is done by the medical examiner in MEPS.

Just listen to SFC M. I have seen applicants weigh 20 or more pounds over their max weight but still be able to pass the bodyfat percentage. I've even seen a couple kids pass the ARMS test. Good luck.

They always say you can't ship until you're at the right weight, but there were lots of overweight girls in my platoon at boot camp, they just got put on diet trays. I'm pretty sure that they do a body fat taping and if you have the correct body fat, they can still ship you out on time.

yes they can, however he will be admitted to take the grueling ARMS test which will test his heart rate. This test is comprised of 5 minutes of stair walking at a precise rate which is easy to fail. if he does complete it his heart rate must drop to 180 within 2 minutes afterwards. this is the only way. and he must pass this test to get a waiver.
