But Eminem didn't start rap or hip-hop so why would you use him as a point of reference for "before"???

and bob dylan could not be a subgenre of rap, as rap itself was an offshoot of early rock and roll. that would be like calling willie dixon a rock artist.
theres a difference between poetry set to rhythm and Rhythm-And-Poetry. if there wasnt, then rock would be rap. and its kind of the other way around.
