What's expected of an owner of a historic home?

I am looking at buying a home in Monrovia, CA. The home is on the historic register. I have never owned a historic home before. Before I commit to this, can anyone point me to a list of homeowner requirements? I understand there will be responsibilities on my part, but I do not seem able to find out what those responsibilities are! I most certainly do not want to find myself in a situation where the government tells me what brand coffee I can brew.

In order to stay on the historic registry, there are certain changes to the home you can't make and you would need to follow specific guidelines in accordance with the historical society if indeed you wanted to make changes. Usually this info can be found on their website.

You must contact the historic register and find out what their requirements are.
