How do I record the line-out?

I want to find a program (preferabley free) where I can record the sound that comes out of the computer. I dont mean by holding a mic to the speakers. I want a way so that it is a clear recording; I think its the line-out I want.

Update:

BTW I am on Vista and the first answer uses the mic which I don't want to do

Can't you simply plug your recording device, solid state recorder or tape recorder, into the line-out. If you didn't get a cable with your recorder or audio card then you should be able to pick up one quite cheaply. You may also need to visit Control Panel-Sound to configure.

I think there is something associated with windows like this, Start->All Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->Sound recorder, i think that does the job you want right
