But in all seriousness, do you mean time periods like different decades, or do you mean the term in a broader sense? If it's the latter, I can't see how you could get an actual answer to that besides imagining it from the viewpoints of people in those times....

People living back in America, up until the 60's, were not politically correct. modernists today evaluate past events on what is acceptable today, and how it is viewed today thus contorting what actually was.

Im pretty sure people from 1000 years ago would think America is a super futuristic society compared to theirs.
