because it's hard for them to tell if you like them or not! just go out of your way to start conversations with them. don't be like some other shy girls that will ignore him thinking that makes you look like you're not desperate(I'm not saying you are, but you won't look like it trust me).
try to forward things to the phone number exchange.. honestly, you get in the friend zone because you don't try to get to the relationship stage.
