    Dude, don't burn your guitar.

If you must paint your guitar...

Take it completely apart. Neck, bridge, pickguard, wiring, etc.

Use sand paper. Start off with a rough grit and work your way down to a fine grit. (you don't HAVE to get all of the lacquer off)

Buy a can of primer spray. (black or white)

Hang the guitar body in your workshop with a piece of wire through the holes where the neck bolt into it.

Spray two or three, even, coats of primer. Allowing each coat to dry in between applications. NO DRIPS!

Once it's all dry, take it down and decorate till your hearts content.

When your done with that, rehang it and buy some spray on lacquer.

Three or four coats with a fine sanding in between coats should get you a decent finish.

Put it all back together, and voila'!

The paint may be enamel, but that's not important.

Anyway, they sell HOT-Air guns at the hardware store that are for stripping paint. These work quite well. They look just like a hand-held hair dryer, but much hotter. They are kinda inexpensive, but remember to remove what you can before you start, or at least cover things .. Fire or hot-air guns will melt plastic parts and wires.

You can also buy liquid paint removers that you brush on with a paint brush, but these chemicals can run and also cause damage to fragile components.

    BE CAREFUL - and lots -O - Luck !!!!

P.S. - sometimes it's just safer to use a light sandpaper, and hand-rubbing the paint off. Use a light sandpaper, because it will leave less grooves in the wood. Another piece of advice -------If U Use sandpaper, rub back & forth in one direction, and not in circular motions, as these circular motions will show under the new paint job .

fire would definately burn the wood, i once put a leather cover on my gibson sg junior laced it up the edges with leather throngs, turned out it really muffled the sound stopped it vibrating freely and inhibited all that lovely sustain. so be carefull if fire leaves a crusty blackened outter edge on ur squire could have same effect. best of all in my experience is natural wood finish ..no varnish or wax or laquer or nothing

Acetone will take it off. Be very careful with it. Use it outdoors. Puor it on the guitar body (stripped completely of plastic and hardware of course) wait till the finish bubbles up and wipe it off with a towel. Then let the wood dry for a day or so.

Why not use the lacquer as the base coat, and just roughen it with fine glasspaper? My Squier Strat has a plywood body under the lacquer, and yours might, too. It might be hard to repaint well.

Its November 5th soon. If its a Squire go the whole way and bung it on the bonnie man ! Or you could use stripper.

Its a Squire, so you might as well just set it on fire and don't bother putting it out.

USE NITROMOURS PAINT STRIPPER. FIRE WOULD BE OK BUT YOU HAVE TO SCRAPE THE BURNING PAINT OF AS YOU GO , SO YOUR HAND WOULD BURN AS YOUR SCRAPPING. SO SET FIRE TO IT PUT THE FLAMES OUT AFTER 30 SECONDS AND SCRAPE OF WITH DECORATERS SCRAPPER , REPEAT UNTIL IT BORES YOU, IT WILL BE A SLOW PROGRAM , SO GO WITH THE PAINT STRIPPER.ALL THE BEST WITH IT.
