We recently bought an Australian Shepherd from a well known professional breeder. ?
I've had Aussie's several times in my life. He is a male, black tri, and 14 months old. However, our next door neighbors, have two year and a half pit-bulls. He totally ignores them when he does his business, and will stare them back down. The first week, and we have only had him 3, the female came under the fence, but stopped cold, when he when into attack stance. She ran back under the fence VERY fast. They are wonderful guard and watch dogs. They are bred to herd and guard sheep from coyotes. If the pit-bulls get over the fence and come after him again, or me, will Ranger fight back or will he cower? I am just concerned, and wanted some feedback.
Thank you.
I just wanted to add, the fence is the neighbors, not ours. Our dog is as old as the pits. I know I can call animal control if they come in our yard. But they will take the dog and put it down. Should I care? My gut says no.

The first thing I would do is go talk to your neighbor. Do they know there is a problem w/their dogs escaping and/or do they care? Depending on how well that goes, than consider the next step.

If I were you I would be very concerned. your pup doesn't stand a chance against 2 adult dogs, pit bull or otherwise.
I would strongly recommend getting that fence fixed in a way that protects your dog from another dog coming in unwanted. I would also talk to your neighbors, maybe you both can come up with a mutually acceptable way to keep the dogs apart.
if your neighbor's dogs do try to come into your yard again I would call animal control. they could kill your pup (and I am not saying that because they are pits)

First thing you should do is to fix it so your neighbor's dogs can NOT come over, under, around or through your fence. To not do so is to ask for trouble.
I don't know it your neighbor's dogs are going to want to fight yours but if they did, at two to one, what chance would your puppy have?
I wouldn't depend upon nor would I ever expect a 14 month old puppy, especially not one I'd only had for 3 weeks, to protect me.
Please, fix your fence and you won't have to worry about any of this.

First of all I wouldn't want to put my dog into the position to have to defend itself against any dogs, let alone Pit bulls
I would do whatever it takes to prevent these dogs from getting into your yard. You say the fence is your neighbour's then I would be talking to them and asking them to fix the fence so that his dogs can't come through / over / under it. If they refuse I would be taking steps to prevent his dogs from getting into your yard.

tough to say without knowing the dog. but from the first encounter, sounds like he would fight. I would suggest socializing him with the pits and other dogs so there is no dog fight. also fix the fence. you need to introduce your dog to the neighborhood dogs so there are no probs down the line

You will never know what he will do but i would do everything possible to make sure you NEVER find out what he's going to do. No one wants an aggressive dog so avoid it! If these people do not restrain their dogs properly call the local dog warden report them. You should not feel in danger in your own yard!

People give pittbulls such a bad wrap. The dogs will be fine, pittbulls are often even skittish.

From what he did to the first pit bull, stare her down, it sounds like he would defend you.
