There could be a number of reasons:

1. You are the competition; so they are checking you out (as a couple here mentioned).

2. You are either acting or dressing outside the norm, it could be anything, either too modest or too revealing or too trendy or too un-trendy, or maybe you act too confident or the opposite...etc.

3. There has been some rumor in town about you or about someone that looks like you.

4. You are famous for something, usually if it's positive you would know but you might not be aware if it's negative, I'm not saying you are like that but maybe you are known for being the "neighborhood ****", or the "arrogant *****" or the "witch" or things like that.

5. You are actually very very beautiful and they look at you because you are beautiful, that does not necessarily mean that they are attracted to you sexually but a beautiful sight always turns heads.

6. There may be some toilet paper stuck to your shoes... check yourself.

Well, there are different reasons why a girl can stare at other girl. One, could be as you said because they are lesbian. Two, it could be because you are beautiful or have a nice face or body and they envy you. There are a lot of girls with low self confidence and low self esteem that don't feel pretty and envy you because they think you are pretty and they are not. Three, it could be the way you dress, some girls can't use the same type of clothes other use because of the different body types. Possibly you dress very sexy, cute, or just different and that takes the attention of other girls wishing they could dress like you. It could also be because they like your outfit and they want to memorize what are you wearing to copy you. Or sometimes it can be because you look familiar to them and they want to try to remember if they know you or not.

Girls tend to compare themselves with other girls I don't know why. (And I said "they" cuz I don't, every girl is unique and has her own beauty). Maybe if one of those girls was with her boyfriend/husband and he checked you out, they could be staring at you to see why their guy looked at you. It also could be one of those girls who are always in competition and for some reason they want to be the prettiest one in the room and they are just checking out who is more or less pretty than them. Or finally, it could be one of those people who has nothing else to do but stare at everyone in front of them. :)

according to what u say i have observed.....specially among girls...there is a high level of competition between them selves.....even if they are friends...its a takes a lot of time to be real close friends....and most of the times they are observing each others behaviour, or the clothes that they wear or the attitude they show etc....and some times these very things that they observe makes them think unwantingly that i can be better than her or oh she has a real cool dress and i envy it, or look at her she is so much an attention seeker....which is common in all girls.......well this is what ive noticed :)

If they aren't lesbian or bi, then they are probably just checking out the competition.

Of course, I am a guy, so take that advice with a grain of salt. Next time you see them looking at you, go over and ask them yourself. That way, you'll know for certain.

Girls are more attracted to each other then men simply not because that they are Bi or straight its just to figure out who is best amongst them.more over the 1st thing you stare at is the breast size and the foot wear.It is the 1st stare thats starts everything.

Its a primitive territorial thing, everyone naturally ranks themselves against and attempts to intimidate members of the same sex in order to establish a position in the social structure or "pack." Biologically the trait is now fairly redundant though.

Well, I know sometimes I like someones outfit and I will look it over, sometimes I think- hey I know that person and then I don't, sometimes I just happen to be gazing around...idk I have always wondered the same thing and I am about as straight as it gets.

They stare mostly likely because they are jealous or enving you.Because many girls I KNOW aren't gay give me this funny look or look me up and down and I asked alotta women,the same question you asked....older women,middle aged women in their twenties and they all said....jeaslous...they are jealous and stare trying to figure out how we got so goregous lol....thats all.So give yourself a hand,those are what you call haters,just hating on your beauty.Or sometimes their not they're just admiring your beauty....so you're beautiful hun !!!
