Right to choose a religion?

Your religion is chosen for you by your parents before you have any input into matter. At 16 or 18 you could make an informed decision as to what religion is right for you, join and enjoy.

Your faith is almost always determined by geography yet the human spirit is not one of geography.

I know tactically it's smart but should we let religious flock builders get our kids.

I guess I just don't understand this mental crutch called religion that most lean on for answers and purpose. In this world answers are easy to come by.

Religion has been given an chance but the belief in it has murdered more people than everything else that kills on this planet combined. With that record why would you even consider faith.

In everyday life I can see how people are evolving out of the need for religion anymore and soon the concept of religion will just be a historical footnote.

Something to look back at and say "what were we thinking" and have a laugh.

Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.

Children are indoctrinated and then fed propaganda!!

But as they get older and better educated their minds open and knowledge flowers! Then they have the intelligence to shrug off the closed minds their parents promoted and think for themselves - it is then only a very short step to atheism!!

Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God."

Evolution in action with Christians getting left behind like the monkeys and apes before them!!!

Do agree everyone has a right to choose their own religion or to be an agnostic or atheist. Again, agree that many religious parties have murdered those of opposing religions as well. But no that shouldn't condemn religion per se. Atheists also kill, look at Stalin & communism.

Religion does teach morals,a rightous way to live your life & treat others.Instead of looking at the negative aspects take the good from religion & go from there. There's lots to be learned from any religion.

If you think it's a 'mental crutch' well sure helps me..Would you rather I or any religious person turn to drugs, crazy sex ie instead?

Your broad statement is not true. My religion was not chosen for my by my grandparents (they raised me), I was raised with no religion. I grew up in an area where most are Christian, yet I am not Christian.

Religion has killed no one, people kill people. People kill people with or without religion, sadly. (See communism, for example. No religion there, and look how much fighting has happened over it.) Should I just give up on being human? Your argument is flawed.

There will always be theists, there will always be atheists. No side can prove their beliefs to be correct, the best we can do it allow each other our various beliefs and be tolerant of each other.

    Religion will always exist.

It preys on human emotions, as long as people still fear things like their own mortality, they will still sedate themselves with the drug known as religion.

I am not the same religion as my parents BTW, was raised Christian, but am not religious

Ignorance and intolerance is the basis of most religions. When you really think about it, you know that mwm0778 is correct.
