Many hotspots are free and many are not! Unfortunately the itouch and other portable devices forget to tell the buyers about the issues they will face with wifi connections.

    1. You can not legally connect to a wifi system unless you have permission of the owner of the wifi signal!

    2. Wifi is very short ranged - 100 feet in most cases.

    3. HotSpots in many places charge for the connection.

To find the free connections which you will have permission to use.

    1. Use your own - setup a router that has internet and connect all you want.

    2. Use a public system - libraries, schools, and many airports and cities provide some wifi spots.

    3. Use your Hotels system - most hotels etc now provide wifi for the guests.

Be very aware that using just any signal you may see is first illegal, and second very dangerous.

Many "open" wifi systems are being used to steal information from you. When you connect, you connect to a local network and that information sent and received can be monitored, thus stollen!

Best solution, use only wifi you know and use your own.

Your telephone probably purely had one WiFi gadget. So it could the two hook up with WiFi as a customer, or act as a WiFi hotspot on your cellular provider community, yet no longer rather the two on an analogous time.

If the wifi or hotspot has a wep or wpa security you can't access it, unless you know the password, but if it doesn't have you connect to it freely but be warned that those kind of wifi that don't have security can be dangerous.

it depends on how you have your Ipod is setup as to whether it will try to connect to every wireless network - also different providers have different charges - if you need to pay and enter credit card information be very careful as this is an area in which there are many scams
