Mountain Shoes to get the Aconcagua?

Hi to all. I am going to get the Aconcagua. I would like to buy the shoes "La Sportiva Nepal Evo Gtx" Someone tond me the La Sportiva Spantic should be better but most of the time I go under 5.000 mt when I hike. I don't want to buy somthing I'll use only once. Do you think that Nepal Evo with some good sox should be enough? Thanks to all

The age old question of plastic boots vs. traditional boots. Up until the development of synthetic boots, I don't think there was a question about needing plastic boots for the really high elevation peaks - you just had to get plastic boots.

Now that there are synthetic boots with modern insulations and even GoreTex liners, the decision is harder. Some people hate plastic boots and their feet run warm so they use synthetic boots. Others have feet that get cold in anything but plastic boots.

Aconcagua's pretty high, nearly 7000m.. I think you'd probably be better off with the Spantik (or similar) than the Nepal Evo (or similar), gonna be pretty cold and exposed - I'd say that in such conditions it's much better to err on the safe side, don't want frostbite or just to be in discomfort for your whole trip.

But you're right, for the most of your other trips, the Evo would probably be better.

I hope you're not going to buy these from the internet though, as you really must try them on a lot before you commit to them.

And hey, if you really don't think you're going to use them again after Aconcagua and want to save money, can always ebay them!

I'm thinking that since the Big A is over 20,000 feet tall, you're going to need a pair of boots. It gets pretty dang cold at those altitudes.

This may be a once in the lifetime event (?) - spending a little extra on boots (which you will probably use again) would be beneficial.
