  • Can you add cell formatting into a function in Microsoft Excel Visual Basic?

    I have this simple function:

    Public Function PC(Numberone, numbertwo)

    PC = (Numberone / numbertwo - 1)

    Selection.NumberFormat = "0.0%"

    End Function

Now, the selection formatting thing there doesn't work - the function only presents the number as a decimal, whereas i want it in a percentage. obviously i can format it like this separately, but it'd be much more convenient to build it into the function!

    any ideas?

    thanks!

  • Does hair dye cause your hair to fall out?

I'm a 23 year old male who has just dyed their hair for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it now seems to me that I have a large amount of hair falling out. That is, whenever I rub my hands vigorously through my hair during washing etc. there are many hairs on my hands, and I also notice that it looks noticeably thinner on my head.

I don't know if all this is perhaps just due to the fact that now the hairs are darker, and so much more easily visible than naturally (it was light brown/blonde, now it's dark brown), or not.

It doesn't seem like it could be male pattern baldness setting in, as it's all only happened in the last couple of weeks, correlated obviously with when I dyed it.

Does anyone else have any experience of this?

  • What was it like not to be in recession?

So I've just finished the first year of my career, a good career in analytics for businesses etc., but started on a lower-than-i-had-expected-when-younger wage, and just got given a very measly pay increase. I imagine this is due to the subdued state of the economy, as well as of my specific sector (advertising).

So anyone got any stories of what it was like getting promoted back in boom times? Were they heady days?

  • Why are my clothes becoming all 'bobbly'?

I've recently moved to a new area (Southwark, in London), and find that my clothes are now starting to go all bobbly. I'm sure you know what I mean by that, but generally they're just not as pleasant to wear.

Obviously changing area means changing the water that is used to wash them, but Southwark is 'hard' water, and I'm fairly sure I've always been in hard water areas. I've also obviously changed the washing machine I've been using, but kept the same detergent (although I have started using softener too).

The weird thing is that this is the fourth area of the country I've moved to in as many years, and this has never happened before.

What do you think may be causing it?

  • Anyone been to the Watergate club in Berlin?

We went to this club yesterday, as German-speaking English tourists in a small, mixed-sex group (1 girl and two guys) at about 1.30/2am, but we were turned away - ostensibly for being either dressed 'too smart', or just that we 'wouldn't fit in'.

Does anyone have any advice for what to do to get in? Or is it impossible if you're not a Berliner?

  • Should I start saving for retirement?

I'm 23 now, and a Brit. What age should I start saving for retirement? My current company has a dreadful pension scheme, where they contribute a further 10% of what you contribute a month, so it's barely worth bothering with that currently. What are general recommendations?

  • What's this film? Called something like Blinded.?

Post-apocalyptic world, everyone is blinded, except the main character (a blonde lady) who has to look after a bunch of people including her husband. Some other nasty people come along at some point and swap their jewellery for food..

  • Which strength suntan lotion to use?

Does the suntan lotion strength affect both your sun-tanning as well as sun-burning? i.e. will you take longer to tan if you have a higher sun protection factor on, as well as taking longer to burn?

  • Can you recommend an mp3 player?

Want to buy a new one, for £100-£150, 20gb or so, don't need or want video, good battery life essential, radio would be sweet, NOT an iPod.

    Got any recommendations?

  • Is there a book review-aggregator website?

Is there a website that compiles book reviews from dozens of reviews and gives an average score? Much like Rottentomatoes.com does for film.

  • What's the spectacles website where you pay a small deposit to have them send 5 frames to you to try on?

There's a website where you pay like £5, choose 5 frames for glasses/spectacles, get them sent to you to try on, then send them back, get your £5 deposit back, and have lenses put in and pay the price to buy.

    Anyone know what it is?

  • What sort of cider should one use to make mulled cider?

I'm hoping to make a fairly large quantity, so was hoping a cheap cider would be adequate, what does anyone reckon?

All cheap ones are fizzy, which is to say all non-fizzy ones are expensive (at least to my knowledge). I imagine non-fizzy cider would be better to use, but does anyone have any experience with using fizzy cider for it? I thought maybe could leave it to go flat...

    Thoughts please!

  • Does Windows (XP) have any built in programs to schedule power on and power off?

I want to get my computer to power off automatically after work, and power on again before I arrive. Is there any way that Windows can do this, or must one use third-party software?

  • What should I wear for a dinner with interviewers the night before job interview?

I have been invited to dinner with my job interviewer (and presumably other candidates, as well as some of the interviewer's colleagues) the night before a job interview.

What should I wear? The restaurant is unspecified but I imagine nowhere really posh.

Note this job is a for six month research assistant in a University economics department, not for a high flying well paid city job, and I'm only a post-graduate, not an executive.

Top half I'm thinking a shirt and a V neck smart jumper. But for bottom half I'm undecided between smart jeans and smart trainers or my suit trousers and shoes.

This is such an unorthodox invitation I have no idea how to proceed!

  • Colon and abbrevation rule?

I want to write Dependent var, as in Dependent variable, followed by a colon.

    Should I therefore write

Depedent var.:? the period to indicate the contraction, followed by the colon?

or does dependent var: make sense because the dot in the colon includes the contraction?
