What sort of cider should one use to make mulled cider?

I'm hoping to make a fairly large quantity, so was hoping a cheap cider would be adequate, what does anyone reckon?

All cheap ones are fizzy, which is to say all non-fizzy ones are expensive (at least to my knowledge). I imagine non-fizzy cider would be better to use, but does anyone have any experience with using fizzy cider for it? I thought maybe could leave it to go flat...

Thoughts please!

You nead a real cider, preferable medium sweet to cut down on the sugar you need to add.

Processed fizzy ciders are not suitable at all

I have let the fizzy stuff go flat and it's not bad.
