Does hair dye cause your hair to fall out?
I'm a 23 year old male who has just dyed their hair for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it now seems to me that I have a large amount of hair falling out. That is, whenever I rub my hands vigorously through my hair during washing etc. there are many hairs on my hands, and I also notice that it looks noticeably thinner on my head.
I don't know if all this is perhaps just due to the fact that now the hairs are darker, and so much more easily visible than naturally (it was light brown/blonde, now it's dark brown), or not.
It doesn't seem like it could be male pattern baldness setting in, as it's all only happened in the last couple of weeks, correlated obviously with when I dyed it.
Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Unfortunately it does. All the hair on the top of my head fell out when I colored it black and it has taken almost 3 years for most of it to come back and it still isnt back all the way, you can see through it. I have to literally wear hats all the time. Never, I mean never ever dye your hair unless it is in a salon. The salons use dye that have a lot less chemical in them. Anyways, this is what you need to do: there are pills you can purchase called silica through vitamin shops like www.puritainspride.com as well as hair vitamins. I have been taking silica, a womens multivitamin and the hair skin nails vitamins everyday for about 2 weeks now. I have noticed little hairs comming back in already. Sure it's not a huge change but it sure beats nothing at all. The hair vitamins have horsetail vitamin in them that help the hair you have stay put, while helping more hair grow back.

when someone dyes their hair a lot usually their hair drys out and starts to fall out but If it is your first time your hair shouldn't be falling out, if you brought the dye from a supermarket it might be why your hair isn't handling it well due to how cheap the product is. if your going to dye your hair it is best to get a hairdresser to do it. Also if you are straightening your hair it would be drying your hair out even more and making it become dead, so that might be another reason it is falling out.

If you have an allergy to something in the hair dye it is possible. Some skin conditions on the scalp can affect hair growth as well.

It might be that you have a sensitive scalp, and the hairdye irritated it.
