Should I start saving for retirement?

I'm 23 now, and a Brit. What age should I start saving for retirement? My current company has a dreadful pension scheme, where they contribute a further 10% of what you contribute a month, so it's barely worth bothering with that currently. What are general recommendations?

Sign up for your company's pension fund. You may think it's pathetic but you are missing out on the time value of money. Time is on your size. You should start investing for retirement ASAP really.

Pension is guaranteed. It's rare these days b/c it's so expensive to administer and handle. What do you have to lose? It seems to me whatever you think about it - do it anyway. Is there a cost to you?

If there is a cost, what is it? How does it benefit you?

What kind of tax benefits do you get for retirement saving? The benefit with starting early is that you contribute less per month versus having to catch up later on in life. You will contribute less b/c you have more time to earn more. It's a better deal if you can do it.

If you can do it then do it. You'd be crazy not to. Watch the fees. Be conservative for now.

I started saving for retirement at your age.

Having a guaranteed 10% return on your money from employer matching (in addition to the growth on your investments) is hardly dreadful. That's one of the best matching rates I've heard of! Be sure to sign up for your company's retirement plan and start saving this week. Here's more information about about saving for retirement: http://moneygirl.quickanddirtytips.com/how-to-save...
