What are the best homeschooling programs? AND have they made it illegal to homeschool your child in CA?
I heard something about an attempt to do the latter... my 4 year old keeps getting sick from preschool, and I had decided to homeschool next year anyway. Id just like a few homeschool programs to look into, or any other info you can offer me! And please no judgemental comments!

You will be happy to know that homeschooling is alive and well in California. You are referring to a case that had nothing to do with homeschooling, but which resulted in a stupid decision by an Appeals court last February. The same court overturned their own decision, unanimously, in September.
Here is information on the various ways to homeschool in California. You will see that there are a number of options: http://www.homefires.com/ca_style.asp

There are too many resources to list, so just do an internet search and you will find tons of info. And every state has it's own homeschool organization where you can find out what your state requires. I homeschooled my children in the Northbay area of S.F., but that was a few years ago.

I make my own curriculum from tons of free resources online. I just found out what the state requires for each grade, make sure that they are on track for their grade and work from there. My children are several years ahead of their grade level compared to their ages. That is one of the things that I think are great about homeschooling. You can tailor everything to their individual needs. We cut out alot of the "unnecessary" stuff, such as coloring a pic of Abe Lincoln, but that was at their requests. They would rather learn more about who he was in depth. I find videos on Netfix and the library. Of course the internet is a wealth of information.
I would say, start out with some software from Achieve. (Found cheap on Ebay), check out www.edhelper.com and go from there. There isn't anything wrong with paid home school programs. It just isn't in the budget here. I am fortunate enough to be home and spend evenings researching and printing material that I can teach them myself. I have to say.. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Sure they drive me bonkers at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Best wishes to you and yours!!
