I own firearms and i live in the state of Illinois where they require you to have a firearms id card and register them, although they try to make if difficult i will have protection in my home.~

not really. there is a huge difference between owning a handgun/shotgun and knowing how to use one...especially in a time of duress. if someone is breaking into your home, you now have to get the gun, go to the lockbox and get the bullets out, and then confront the intruder. this isn't a dirty harry movie, this is reality...and it's not as easy to just shoot someone as you might think.

edit: to all of the gun supporters out there, didn't say there was anything wrong with having one in your home for protection. i was simply telling the poster of the drawbacks of what could happen. you cannot, in this day and age, simply shoot and kill an intruder, and expect (even in "castle doctrine" states) there there will be no consequences.

    No.

Statistically, the odds of you needing a firearm for "protection" are very slim. The odds of someone having an accident with it, or using it for a suicide or domestic violence, are much greater.
