dog harnesses for small dogs?
i have a dog that is the size of a jack russell and she is starting to pull on the lead (4 months old). i have heard that harnesses are a good way to control a dog but all the ones i can find online seem a big flimsy, difficult to put on and quite frankly tacky!
10 points for anyone who can find a good one that looks good, looks sturdy, and easy to put on a wriggly dog!
All help appreciated!
thanks

I personally don't suggest rogz as it is just designer crap and isn't well padded. A harnness does encourage the dog to pull more as he can get his nose on the ground to sniff thus encouraging to pull. But if you want a harness that discourages pulling I suggest 'Halti' they are a great make (German) and are strong and comfortable for the dog also doesnt allow the dog to pull.
Good luck

I use Rogz harnesses on my two jack russells. Here is one of many places you can get them:

They come in all sorts of colours and either patterned or plain.
I find them really easy to put on because as opposed to Canac harnesses you put one loop over the head then one leg through and then do it up under the other leg. Canac ones, the dog has to step into and you do it up on their back, tricky if you have a wriggler.
Someone has said that they don't stop dogs pulling and they are right, they don't but if your dog pulls it doesn't pull on their throat and make them cough like a collar does. I find that I have more control though. It does take some training but once you and your dog get the hang of it, it's better than a halti. I found that despite a lot of training my dogs never liked wearing a halti and I got questioned a lot by stupid people who thought it was a muzzle.
You can get Lupi type harnesses which claim to stop pulling but I tried one on my jack and he got rope type burns under his armpits which was horrible.

I would try taking the dog with you to pet smart and looking at different harness and try other collars and stuff as well,if the dog comes you can make sure the harness fits you dogs measurements,I know pet smart has other no pull collars and harness, they maybe a better thing to get ask them all the staff are helpful and its fun shopping with you dog!

The Easywalk harness is a God-send! I have a Cavalier who likes to pull and this works a treat. When the dog tries to pull, it pulls him to the side. My dog learnt within a minute! You need to find a harness where the dog has nothing to pull against at the front (ie a Puppia would be useless).

You don't say where you live. These are easily available in the US, but are only available on eBay in the UK.

I have two Miniature yorkies and have found that the RAC harnesses are the best after trying many other makes, my youngest yorkie wriggles something terrible but she has taken to the harness no problem at all. It can be used in the car and for walking.
Try ebay for a good price on one too, i've found they are much cheaper on ebay than in local pet shops.

There are a lot of harnesses out there made especially for small dogs. To make sure you find one that fits, you need to measure your dog's neck and girth.
Check out the link below for a great selection of small dog harnesses:

Harnesses actually make it easier for a dog to pull. The dog is able to use it's chest to pull rather than just his neck.
Your pup is too young to go into a gentle leader or head halter. Instead, both of you need to get to a obedience class so that you both can learn proper ways to walk.

harness wast of time just helps them pull even more (look at sled dog harnesses) plus dogs can reverse out of them if they dont wana go were you want them, try a halti, attatched to collar and dog training classes

Puppia harnesses are very good, sturdy and easy to put on a dog and i am yet to find a dog who can wriggle out of one if it is the correct size.
Most online stores have them.
