Can UNIX be installed in a pc?...?

...or is bsd more easy and useful than UNIX.If so where i can get these operating systems.I can't spend 40$ for them, coz iam in india.I am not able to download the freebsd image(3.4gb) coz my internet connection in unreliable.So are there any outlets in India or any magazines with which these operating systems come with.

buddy, I was speaking about the shipping cost for getting the dvd from free bsd mall, when i said 40 bucks.Thanx for the download manager idea, i did not think about it. thanx mate.

    freebsd is... free! unix is a commercial product and I doubt you could buy it for 40 bucks.... but there are versions that can run on PCs, if you can afford one. :)

    to download a large amount of data, use a download manager (I used FlashGet, but there are a lot of other good ones). they can even be stopped and retrieve downloads. I used to d/l CD iso images through 33.6 kbps modem! and never have I burned a "coaster"!

    why don't you try LINUX? it's also free, and it can be found even on some CD/DVDs that come with IT magazines.

    The previous poster has a good idea. You can use a linux distribution that has a simple window manager and wget to download the ISOs needed.
