I think there is a definite correlation - at least in my taste. Some mainstream - but mostly experimental and kinda out there.
I think it comes down to the media that people like are going to reflect their opinions of them - of what they want to get out of the experience. I look at it as an active experience, where I have to search through it, peel back the layers. I have to analyze and read everything. I like to listen to and watch and read things that make me think, that challenge me and my notions about the world. Those are the main things that attract me in entertainment.

Shows: That '70s Show, House MD, Roseanne, History Channel...eh, I don't really watch much TV.
Movies: Performance, Scarface, the 10th Kingdom, Harold and Maude, American Beauty, Pulp Fiction, Withnail and I, Goodfellas, Reservoir Dogs, Naked Lunch, Drugstore Cowboy, Bonnie and Clyde, The Boondock Saints, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Almost Famous, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid...I mostly watch music related DVDs, but those are some of my favorites that aren't.

I like Metal/Classic Rock/Punk and I like Law&Order, NCIS for tv shows. Movies I like are The Departed, Training Day, Hide & Seek, Sweeny Todd, Across The Universe, and my all time favorite Blues Brothers.
