Hyundai Accent 2-door, low gas mileage?
i have a hyundai accent 2-door and it gets very low gas mileage. but my friend has the same car, lives in the same area as me, bought it at the same time as i did, has a heavy foot on the gas, and yet she gets twice the mpg as me. i took it to the dealership to be looked at and they said its the hilly area i live in. Whats the deal?

depends on a few things. make sure you dont have a heavy foot accelerating from red lights just because, as that will reduce overall gas mileage just based on driving style. Also, if the engine air filter has not been changed in over a year, it is possible it could lead to decreased airflow to the engine and lower MPG. replacing it yourself with a new filter from wal mart is an easy DIY. You can also swap out the spark plugs if those are long overdue to be changed (check the manual for the maintenance schedule to make sure items were replaced at proper interval). other simple things include checking your tires air pressure and making sure they are at the proper level as underinflated tires not only wear faster, but have more rolling resistance and will make your car work harder.
