how much tax is added to a purchase in the US?
I just bought something for $140 but when it came to the final invoice it was $280 including tax. they added on $140 tax. are they allowed to do this??

Tax rates vary, but 100% tax would be more than anyplace really has. Question the invoice.

For the US, nothing, for states and local jurisdictions, it varies. It is never 100% so something is wrong with your bill.

It is from zero to 10 percent ..max-would be 140.00 plus 14.00-
I think you were double billed but not taxed...
unless it was a car rental...........
