How does Rick Astley feel of that Rick Roll thing?

Now, he's gotten probably thousands times more popular than before...

Who GOT the idea of doing the Rick Roll, by the way?

Maybe himself?

MQ: Do you like the song?

There's actually an interview with Rick Astley about Rick Rolling in the Los Angeles Times Online here: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/webscout/2008/03/r...

I believe NPR interviewed him about it as well, though I can't find any clips of that online.

I personally love the song and music video, especially now that the fad has died down and I'm not tricked into watching it every other day.

In a March 2008 interview, Astley said that he found the Rickrolling of Scientology to be "hilarious"; he also said that he will not try to capitalize on the Rickroll phenomenon with a new recording or remix of his own, but that he'd be happy to have other artists remix it. Overall, Astley is fine with the phenomenon, stating that he finds it "bizarre and funny" and that his only concern is that his "daughter doesn't get embarrassed about it."[54] A spokesperson for Astley's record label released a comment which showed that Astley's interest with the phenomenon had faded, as they stated "I'm sorry, but he's done talking about Rickrolling."[55]

I was wondering the same thing when I got rick rolled a few minutes ago.

MQ: Actually, I do. At first I didn't, but after a bunch of times hearing it, I actually started to like it.

He knows about it - he got nominated for the Best entertainment award on MTV (no joke!) because of it last month. I should imagine he's pretty thankful of it - no one would no who he was these days, if it wasn't for rick rolling! He'd be a nobody.

MQ - Meh, it's ok. It's catchy but it gets corny and annoying.

It actually started back in april fools of 2007(i think it was that year) where youtube got the video and placed selected vidoes under a rickroll

  • I was just wondering the same thing I found him talking about the thing though and the reaction it's gotten.

I've never understood the Rick Roll thing, what's the point of it? does it mean something? What's it all about?

I think the song is OK, it reminds me of my childhood

Someone asked him that in an interview once. He didn't really get it, but thought it was kinda neat. I don't think he's too internet-savy. I think he was basically just happy that his work was getting some extra attention.
