Mouse problems, pointer is one place clicks on another?

I have a new Dell with Vista and my mouse pointer is about 1" from where it clicks. Example: My pointer has to be about a 1' bottom right of Button before I can click it. How can I correct this?

Update:

It is a brand new mouse just pulled from the package. It is clean

It's not a mouse problem - the SOFTWARE sees it where it isn't. Download the driver from Dell's site and install it. (I know it's installed. Download another copy and install it. Make sure to reboot after installing it.)

in case you have the alternative of fixing the batteries, attempt putting in some extra powerfull ones which could output greater mA . it may additionally be a motive force subject, given the countless issues Vista has. see if there are as much as date drivers from the mouse manufacturers internet site.

open the mouse at the bottom and see if the rollers are junky dirty.. i scatch the dirt of with my nail and blow the dirt out.. can also be cleaned with alcohol and a Q-tip.. it could very well be your mouse pad clogging up your mouse.. try a plastic mouse pad or none at all.. bummer eh ~
