is it possible to "re-start" a menstrual cycle?

i have lost lot of weight in the past year and half. i have not had a menstrual cycle in that time. my hair is starting to thin out, and i'm wondering if it's b/c i don't have enough estrogen in my body. is it possible to re start a cycle, without gaining a bunch of weight? anyone know? please, i am looking for serious answers!

The weight loss is most likely responsible for both the lack of menstruation and the hair loss. Either you have been on a near starvation diet, or you have been exercising to the point where your body fat is gone. The only way to re-start your cycle is to eat and return your body weight to normal. Please talk to a doctor or someone...it's not only your hair that is being affected, it's your internal organs, like your heart that are paying a heavy price. Take care.

both hair thinning and the absence of menstruation are symptoms of anorexia, though you may not have an eating disorder you must go see a doctor
