Car's air condition stinks?
My car's (06 Porsche Cayman S) air condition suddenly started stinking when turned on... What can that be and what do I best clean to get rid of this smell?
Hi - yes, the smell is mildew-like. However I left it running on full blast for about 10 minutes once and that didn't solve it.
I drive the car daily so it hasn't been in storage or long...

This is definately mold on your ac condensor, If you take it to your dealership they are gonna charge you alot of money to spray an anti microbial on your aluminum ac condensor. However simple lysol spray can be used to kill these microbes as well. If you have an easy access condesnor spray it into that and through your vents. if not hit your cowl (this is the system country is talking about but it sometimes fails to hit the condensor directly.induction a couple of times and through the vents. Also may be worth checking if porsche makes an afterblow module for your car(keeps the blower motor on for 10 minutes after you shut off the car to dry the condensor). This is very common now because aluminum ac condensors collect a lot of extra water

Paul, New car dealers have a system that fogs a disinfectant through the air conditioning duct-work to kill mold, mildew and bacteria.
The car and all air conditioning systems are turned on full blast as this fog is fed into the intake duct-work at the base of the windshield with the car engine running. It does actually work!

Check the AC condensation drain pan hose for not having a blockage. If the tray retains moisture, it can cause a mildew smell. The auto parts stores sell a deodorizer that can be sprayed through the cowl vent.

the accumulator in a vehicles a/c system sometimes become covered in mold due to the high moisture content of the device. sometimes these accumulators are well hidden out of site and hard to access for cleaning. Also check to see if your vehicle is equipted with a "cabin Filter" which basically filters the air inside the car.

is it like a mildew smell? I seem to get that sometimes, and I have to run the air for a while before it goes away... I hope there's a better solution to the problem :/

Although rare, I have heard that sometimes animals will nest inside the ducts. If the car was in storage for any amount of time, you might want to check this.
