Why did old Saugus Speedway close?

Interesting question, but I can't find a definitive answer to it. From what I've read, it might have been a couple of factors. The track was pretty old, and the owner/promoter got the opportunity to build another track.

I remember. The family that owned it for years was forced to make over a million dollars in improvements by local government. Instead they said "screw it! and sold the property for $$$.

it sucked.
