Do smartkeys reduce auto theft?

More and more car models are changing from the classic key to smartkeys to start cars. Do these new keys make stealing a car more difficult?

Yes it does, because the key has a computer chip in it and it is programmed for that vehicle. Those keys cannot be duplicated by the standard process to having a duplicate made, ( like at Wal Mart or any other place that can cut keys) if they do, it will "kill" the chip in the key and will no longer work to start your car. ( the chip has to be detected by a receiver in the dash) Those keys can only be purchased at your dealer and they not only have to cut it, they also have to program it to your vehicle.

Not if someone steals your smartkey.
