Why does my computer get infected with more viruses then another computer on the same internet connection?

I share an internet connection with my fiance. His computer is a Sony Vao and mine is a HP Pavilion. We both have Windows Vista and Norton Anti- Virus, we both avoid unsafe sites and unknown download requests and yet my computer gets more virus, 2 to 1 then his.

Update:

I only get emails from my mom and sister and send emails to them. If I don't know who the email is from I don't open it. Sometimes my virus protection will say it blocked something from accessing my computer and I will not be on any site, but doing something in Microsoft Works...

Update 2:

And if I wanted people to correct my spelling and grammar I would go back to elementary school. Don't answer the question if my grammar offends you so.

It has nothing to do with the internet connection or the anti-virus program you use, it is all about the websites you visit, even big name websites like CNN or Oprah have been hacked & had virus loaded on to them to spread to viewers. And all you have to is open a web page, they are called drive by viruses.

I understand that you say you and he both practice the same browsing and downloading habits, as well as take the same precautions, but the vast majority of PC virus infections are a result of the browsing habits of the primary user.

My brother gets viruses often, though less so now that he keeps his firewall and antivirus up to date and has a steady girlfriend (porn site operaters have few scruples). My dad also gets a lot of spyware and viruses because he's inexperienced with computers and once I moved out the constant maintenance of the computer ceased.

The two computers at my house are virus free and have always been since I don't let that kind of stuff happen to my computers. My partner's mom stayed with us for one night recently, however, and after an evening of playing Slingo she had managed to install some casino software, several viruses, and had pop-ups on our screen.

A malicious application is a malicious application that spreads itself without consumer interaction. frequently they only call out to random information superhighway addresses probing for holes till they locate one and unfold. Ones that unfold on the internal community are extra uncommon, even yet it truly is a lot extra ordinary to apply a working laptop or computer from interior the very own community. you ought to use a application like zonealarm to confirm in the journey that your computer is attempting to confirm outbound connections with others. a speedy initiate>run>cmd>netstat will inform you precise away what connections you have open, in case you have hundreds, which could be a demonstration. i'm not ruling out human blunders thus, even however, it truly is the likely clarification.

You probably to more social emailing that he does (ie..Funny emails set to a million people with attachments). You ever open a message, download an attachment and say ...."Hum nothing happened" something happened a virus was placed on your computer. I may be wrong its just an assumption but this is more than less likely what's happening.

Avoid mass emails even went sent from know addresses of friends.

Kaspersky and BitDeffender are a **** of a lot better than Norton, AVG, and McAfee. Maybe he gets mainly worms, so that you both end up with the virus, and you get viruses(worms spread through networks of most types, and viruses don't.)

  • 1 decade ago

I was wondering that too, but even though you are on the same network does not mean it will affect all the computers. Some viruses though, can do that, I think its called a "worm"

You're doing something that he isn't, maybe you're going to a bad site, maybe your antivirus is out of date, and maybe you're just getting false positives.

Also, just a recommendation, the big antivirus companies release utter crap. Best to go buy one from a smaller company like NOD32 or Kaperskey.

Well you must visit more sites with viruses, or get more viruses via email.

The word is "than" - not "then".

Your problem is related to your email address or password which is "in the wild" and his is not. Change your email address and password.
