    Hi Jasmin,

If you mean a dispute filed with the credit bureau, then the amount of time they have to respond will vary depending on how you obtained your credit report.

If you file a CRA dispute based on information contained in a FREE annual credit report, then the CRA has 45 days in which to research and validate or invalidate the debt and respond accordingly.

If you file a CRA dispute based on information contained in a report that you bought and paid for, then the CRA has 30 days in which to research and validate or invalidate the debt and respond accordingly.

At the end of either period, they have to remove the disputed item from your credit report if it is not verified by the company listing the item on your credit report.

If there are errors on your credit report, dispute them with the credit bureaus. They will contact the creditor requesting verification. If the creditor does not respond to the credit bureau within 30 days, the item will be removed.

There are some 'credit' sites that recommend disputing everything in the hopes the creditor won't respond and the item gets removed. Don't waste your time trying this. Even if something does get removed, it is likely to return the next time the creditor updates to the credit bureau. Disputing legit items could get you tagged by the credit bureau and you would have problems getting real errors fixed in the future.

Business credit reports will cost you. Try Dun and Bradstreet for starters.
